Healing with Sound

SOUND THERAPY

Do you ever listen to music and something starts happening in your body? Maybe it’s a feeling or vibration that you can’t control or recall why it’s happening. But you have to respond by tapping your foot, nodding your head, or shaking your hips. Chances are you’re experiencing a frequency that your body is enjoying and causing you and your central nervous system to take notice.

Their are different types of sound therapy other than music that we offer. For instance, guided meditations are available. Perhaps you are already familiar with apps like Calm and the Chopra institute offering a variety of guided meditative practices. And if you are not familiar, guided meditation is when you are meditating to voiced instruction and can involve chanting, repeating mantras or prayers.

Another form of sound therapy is using tuning forks. Tuning fork therapy uses calibrated metal tuning forks to apply specific vibrations to different parts of the body. This helps release tension and energy, and promotes emotional balance. It is sometimes thought to work similarly to acupuncture by using sound frequencies for point stimulation instead of needles. Some research suggests tuning fork therapy may help relieve muscle and bone pain.

Sound therapy healing instruments include:

  • Singing bowls

  • Tuning forks

  • Drums

  • Flute

  • Harp

  • Voice
