Tips for Self-Care

What is self-care and why is it important? Caring for one’s self is not a selfish act but rather a necessity in this day and age. Self-care is one of the smartest things you can do for yourself. Allowing yourself to recharge, recalibrate and regroup will bring forth the best version of yourself so you can better manage all the obstacles life may throw your way. Like caring for your car, your home, your family; the proper care of your body mind and spirit can be invaluable.

Whether it's “Self-care Saturday” or “Self-care Sunday” self-care should be part of everyone’s life and daily routine. You don’t need a special day or occasion to participate in self-care. It can be as simple as a 20-minute walk in nature, hot bath, mediation or sharing time with family and friends. We can all live a better existence by learning how to care for ourselves in a healthy and nurturing way. By knowing what makes you happy, brings you joy, lowers your stress levels, brings a smile to your face, makes you laugh and makes your heart sing; helps your body-mind-spirit to be in-tune with everything and everyone around you. Practicing self-care is not selfish behavior. And for the healing profession, it is an absolute necessity.

Self-care looks different for everyone because everyone is different. But it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. Nature is one of the best healing elements we can turn to energetically recharge ourselves and clear our energy fields. Maybe it’s the forest, the mountains, the river or ocean. Maybe it’s your garden or your neighborhood park. Get outdoors and pull the Earth’s energy into you. Try mediation, enjoy silence as well as moving your body to your favorite music. Live life and be the best version of yourself. What self-care practices will you add to your daily routine?

Here’s a basic recipe for homemade bath salts:

  • 3 cups Epsom salt

  • 3 cups Dead Sea salt

  • 1 cup cornstarch

  • 1 TBSP dried lavender (optional)

  • 1 TBSP dried rosemary (optional)

  • Or use an essential oil of your choice

Put all the above in a large bowl. Mix thoroughly with a whisk or large wooden spoon until thoroughly combined. Place in an air-tight container and store in a cool dry place for 4-6 months. Enjoy soaking! Happy healing and thanks for reading.
